Studies suggest South African investors should, over the long term, have an average exposure of between 20% and 30% invested in international assets.
The Absa Offshore Investment Account allows you to gain exposure to offshore investment markets as part of your offshore investment allowance.
What is it?
A range of selected offshore unit trust funds that provides you with the ability to effectively diversify your investment portfolio in terms of geographic regions, currencies and asset classes.
What can it do for me?
Pending global economic conditions and exchange rates, there is a very real possibility of your offshore investments outperforming local funds. At the very least the act of spreading your risk across different regions and economies provides you with the opportunity to capitalise on global opportunities.
What does it cost
The annual fees are calculated on the market value of the units held in the fund. Financial adviser initial and annual review fees are negotiable between you and your chosen financial adviser.
Minimum Lump sum investment
Initial policy charges
Annual policy charges are as follows:
First R250 000 = 0.75%
Next R500 000 = 0.50%
Above R750 000 = 0.25%
Most of the available funds do not declare interest and dividends, as these are automatically reinvested.
Capital gains arising from the disposal of unit trusts are subject to Capital Gains Tax in the hands of the investor.
