Absa Investments walked away with five awards at the annual Raging Bull Awards held recently. The event, now its 25th year, was for the first time in its history held virtually in accordance with the country’s Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. Dubbed the “Oscars” of the unit trust industry, this prestigious event celebrates top performers in the industry across a range of investment sectors.

The Absa Bond Fund was awarded a Raging Bull Award for the Best South African Interest-Bearing Fund for straight performance over three years to December 31, 2020. This fund managed by James Turp, also walked away with two Certificates for the Best South African Interest-Bearing Variable-Term Fund for straight performance over three years and the Best South African Interest-Bearing Variable-Term Fund on a risk-adjusted basis over five years. Over a one year, three year and five year period, the fund has returned an annualised 11.96%, 10.4% and 11.62%, respectively. The fund was a 2020 runner-up for two Raging Bull Awards – a three-year straight performance and five year risk-adjusted performance. As at 31 December 2020, the fund had grown to R3.9 billion.

The Absa Inflation Beater Fund managed by Eben Mare and Kanyisa Ntontela also did not disappoint on the night. The fund was awarded a Raging Bull Award for the Best South African Multi-Asset Equity Fund on a risk-adjusted basis over five years. It also walked away with a Certificate for the Best South African Multi-Asset Low Equity Fund on a risk-adjusted basis over five years. The Inflation Beater Fund is not a newcomer to the awards stage having previously taken the top spot in the Multi Asset Low-Equity category at the 2019 and 2020 Morningstar Awards. The fund has consistently delivered CPI+3% in line with its aim to provide consistent positive returns above inflation. Over a one year, three year and five year period, the fund has returned an annualised 6.68%, 8.19% and 7.82%, respectively.

These wins demonstrate that delivering consistently superior investment performance for our clients is what builds long-term success and certainly reinforces the pedigree of our investment house.

Congratulations to our Portfolio Managers, James, Eben and Kanyisa and their teams for their excellent contributions towards these achievements.
